When the City of Madison looked to replace the Penn Park Shelter with a new design, the neighborhood provided feedback that the shelter needed to accommodate large numbers of people. Penn Park is home to the popular youth football league, the South Side Raiders, whose patrons use the shelter regularly during games. The team concluded that refurbishing the existing shelter, opening it up visually and adding a separate restroom/concession building would accommodate the neighborhood’s needs and provide the scale needed for park guests while being financially prudent.
